Some of the things ecoSAVVY do to improve our own sustainability performance….

• Our premises, as a home based business is co-used and reduces our work related car travel.

• The home and office is not air-conditioned as it is excellently ventilated via lots of louvres. Fans are used as required.

• 100% of our electricity use is Green Power renewable energy supplied as Clean Energy from Ergon Energy.

• Garden landscaping includes local native plant species which use less water and promote biodiversity.

• We clean with non-toxic, biodegradable products.

• Letterhead stationary and business cards are printed on paper made of non-chlorine bleached, 80% pre-consumer waste. Everyday printing paper is 50% recycled fibre, 50% plantation fibre and both sides are used before recycling.

• We aim to minimise packaging waste and reuse items wherever practicable and think its great when we can buy pre-loved (ie second-hand) items.

• ecoSAVVY use and endorse local businesses whenever possible.

ecoSAVVY is a North Queensland based sustainability consultancy business specialising in housing and urban development.

ecoSAVVY partners with North Queensland businesses, organisations and residents to incorporate sustainability principles and features into both new and existing housing and urban development.

ecoSAVVY was established by Sandy McCathie in September 2004 out of a desire to support the North Queensland development industry with the adoption of sustainability priorities and practices as an integral and essential component of sound development. Also more generally, to raise awareness for the important role that sustainable choices will play in maintaining North Queensland as a great place to live and do business.

Director & Sustainablility Consultant - Sandy McCathie

Sandy’s professional experience includes sustainability, environmental management, cleaner production and eco-efficiency in industrial, small business, research, consulting, not-for-profit and government organisations. Sandy also has a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honours in the earth sciences and post graduate qualifications in sustainability.

Sandy is currently vice-chair of the North Queensland Chapter of the Australian Green Development Forum and is an accredited HIA GreenSmart Professional.
